Most people associate fireworks with picnic blankets, barbecues and endless summer nights. But Williamsburg creates an equally nostalgic scene by recreating 18th-century illuminations (the firing of guns and lighting of fireworks) that celebrated major events like important birthdays and military victories. On December 3, gather in Colonial Williamsburg for this special day of live musical performances, beautiful holiday decorations throughout the historic area, and fantastic fireworks at the Capitol, the Magazine and the Palace!
When: Saturday, December 2, 8 a.m.
Parades are a major staple of childhood—the floats! The marching bands! The local organizations! This year, the theme for the Williamsburg Christmas Parade is “Winter Wonderland,” and will welcome special guests Santa and Mrs. Claus! The parade starts at Richmond Road at Brooks street and heads toward Duke of Gloucester Street. Bring warm coats and a thermos of your favorite hot beverage to enjoy as you wave at the incredible floats!
When: Saturday, December 9, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This event is a feast for the senses! The Yorktown Farmers Market features over 35 local farmers, vendors, artists and producers that share delicious food and drink, exciting entertainment and inspiring artworks. The market is extending its hours for this special event and opens for business at 9 a.m. Enjoy holiday music as your browse vendors and sample their goods, watch local chefs prepare various dishes, and then head over to the Toyland Parade at Riverwalk Landing at 1:30, where you’ll get to see Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown, and the Polar Express as it chugs its way along the river!
