Mother’s Day in Williamsburg

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and there are a million ways to celebrate right here in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Williamsburg boasts world-class history museums, art galleries, dining, theme parks, and gorgeous scenic trails and waterways. There’s something for every taste and style here, from art and history lovers to foodies and thrill-seekers.

After a long year cooped up at home, treat Mom to a very special day of sights, sounds, and adventure.

Art and History

If Mom loves history, few places can compete with the Historic Triangle, where the exciting story of America’s birth is told vividly throughout Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Choosing this route could keep your family busy for weeks—there is so much to experience and explore, from the recreations of ships that first came to America at Jamestown Settlement to the carriage rides and historic reenactors of Colonial Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg is also home to the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, which has a rich array of exhibitions featuring colorful folk art made by local artists, beautiful artifacts from Colonial times, and art that represents the earliest cultures and populations that made up our country. Get your Historic Triangle tickets here!

Spas

We looooove spas. And so do moms.

Fortunately, King’s Creek is close to some of Williamsburg’s finest spas. Give her some much-needed “me” time at the Williamsburg Salt Spa, where 15 tons of Polish and Himalayan salt are just waiting to relax and revitalize her. Salt spa patrons report boosted mood, clearer skin and respiratory belief. For Mom, we recommend a hot salt rock massage followed by a salt cave therapy session.

Serenity Spa is another great choice. For mothers-to-be, a signature prenatal massage is just the thing for sore, swollen feet and ankles. All moms will love the attention they’ll get for their skin, sore muscles, and hands and feet. If you call to book an appointment on her behalf, you can’t go wrong with the full-body sugar scrub!

Thrills

If Mom is up for a super fun, fast-paced day with the family, turn to Busch Gardens.

Though changes have been made to normal park operations to keep guests safe, Busch Gardens is still very much a hoppin’ place. Right now, you can reserve your tickets for the incredible Food and Wine Festival. This limited-capacity event is Virginia’s largest food and wine experience, featuring 11 specialty food and beverage areas with over 100 international tastes, wines, brews and cocktails.

After her taste buds are satisfied, take a stroll through the world’s most beautiful theme park for incredible coasters like Verbolten, Invadr and Griffon. If she likes her rides on the lighter side, try Turkish Delight, Der Wirbelwind, or the scenic Busch Gardens Railway.

Nature

Williamsburg’s natural beauty has been well preserved for the past 200 years, which makes us very lucky. Between the bike and walking trails, arboretums and hidden gardens, we’ve got you covered if you seek the wonder of the great outdoors.

We especially love the Greenspring Greenway Trail, a flat, shaded gravel path that loops through about 6 miles of beautiful forests and wildlife. The Virginia Capital Trail connects to the Greenspring Greenway with 52 paved miles that stretch from Jamestown Settlement to the city of Richmond! The most beautiful spot on this path might be the Chickahominy Riverfront—Mom will love the calming river views.

Dining

Remember restaurants? Now that things are slowly returning to normal, we no longer need to deny ourselves a good, old-fashioned night out!

Dine in Williamsburg at Cochon on 2nd, which has a marvelous Mother’s Day menu she’ll love. The rest of the menu features seasonal selections and several locally sourced, organic ingredients.

If Mom has a sweet tooth, swing by Extraordinary Cupcakes, a boutique cupcake spot that bakes fresh cupcakes 3-5 times a day to ensure the freshest, tastiest product. They frequently sell out, so call ahead to reserve your order (check out the mouthwatering menu here)! Have questions? All of your cupcake questions can be answered here.

Deep down, we all know that no matter what kind of Mother’s Day experience Mom cherishes most, all she really wants is to spend time with her family!
