This time of year is all about fun and enjoying the great outdoors! Whether it’s bike trails, fishing, kayaking or barbequing that you have an appreciation for, there are a number of parks around King’s Creek Plantation where your family will have a blast.
1. Kidsburg- Veterans Memorial Park (8.5 miles from Kings Creek Plantation)
Formally known as Mid County Park, Kidsburg is renowned in the Williamsburg area. It has a massive play area with boat and canon themed climbing structures, zip lines, and swings. The park also has picnic tables, walking trails, tennis courts, and open grass for throwing frisbees, footballs, or flying kites.
2. New Quarter Park (5.8 miles)
This park in York County is a great place to spend the day with your family! There is so much to do with picnic shelters, hiking/biking trails, and scenic views. There are plenty of options for getting active with the basketball and sand volleyball courts, softball field, playground, and disc golf course. With access to the waterways, take a canoe or kayak out on the water or enjoy some leisurely fishing!
3. Waller Mill Park (7.1)
Visit the Boat House Store and rent a kayak, canoe, pedal boat, jon boat, or motors, and spend a day full of fun at Waller Mill Park! Come by for one of their exciting events, like the Kids’ Fishing Derby or the Canine Carnival. They also have a playground, dog park, picnic tables, and fishing pier, ensuring there is no shortage of things to do when you visit this exciting park.
4. Freedom Park (13.8 miles)
Visit Freedom Park for the fun and rich historical background dating back to the 1650s. The Go Ape ropes course is an adventure for the young and the old, meaning the whole family can create exhilarating new memories. The Williamsburg Botanical Gardens are also found in this park, which feature year round gardening workshops and hold an annual Butterfly Festival.
5. James City County Marina (10.1 miles)
Formerly known as Eco Discovery Park, this marina has a number of activities you don’t want to miss out on! You can rent your preferred mode of transportation between a bicycle, canoe, or kayak, or venture out on the pontoon boat tour. Afterwards, you and your family can do a little shopping and check out the marina store. This marina is located across from the Jamestown Settlement.
6. Sunken Gardens (5.8 miles)
Visit the Sunken Gardens, located on the campus of the College of William & Mary.
Whether you’re touring the campus, taking family photos, or simply looking for nice grass space for kids to run and play, this is the place to kick back on your trip to Williamsburg. Pack a basket of food, a big blanket, and enjoy a nice picnic at the Sunken Gardens!
