It’s going to be a long, hot summer! We love having this marvelous season to enjoy vacations, spend time with friends and family, and explore the Greater Williamsburg area, and we don’t want the high temps and humidity slowing us down! For those of you interested in water fun: let’s dive in!
We’ve got just what you need to keep cool while things are heating up.

Cooling off just got cooler. If you’re of the brave-hearted, daredevil breed, Water Country USA is the perfect place to find thrills AND chills, all in one place! This water park attraction is jam-packed with wild slip-and-slides, crazy coasters and beach resort vibes.
Whether you’re chasing big twists and turns, or would rather relax on the lazy river, there’s something for everyone at Water Country USA.

For Breaking Away from the Mainstream…
You may be familiar with Williamsburg’s rich history, but did you know that we are also home to an abundance of water trails that are just waiting to be voyaged?
Visit our local parks and recreation sites, like Waller Mill Park and Chickahominy Riverfront Park, where there are lakes open for fishing, boating, pedal boating, canoeing and kayaking. These parks also boast picnic tables, picnic shelters, play fields, and playground equipment within the surrounding trees, providing a scenic area to relax and enjoy the great outdoors.
If you’re craving an adventure but looking for a more guided excursion, look no further than Bay County Kayaking. Here they will share their love of the scenic waters of coastal Virginia through kayak eco tours, where they will educate visitors on the ecological, cultural and historical significance of the experience!
For the Lucky Catches…
If a day of fishing is on your list of must-dos this summer, we have some ideas that will have you hooked! Between the bass, perch, catfish and various other local species, the waters around the greater Williamsburg area are a fisherman’s paradise!
Traverse the Chesapeake Bay, known for its beauty and its bounty! The York River Charters (voted one of the “Best Fishing Guide Companies – Eastern VA” four times!) provides saltwater fishing and sightseeing boat tours, accommodating 1 to 6 guests at a time.
The Little Creek Reservoir is a 996-acre scenic park, offering year-round fishing, boating, picnicking and a lovely one-mile trail to take in the peaceful nature and enjoy the outdoor fun. Rent your boat, cast your line and then finish the day by grilling out by the playgrounds and picnic shelters!
For Some Vitamin Sea…
There’s no happy place quite like the beach, which makes it the perfect place to cool off and dive into some fun this summer. Located in Historic Yorktown, Yorktown Beach is home to a 2-acre public beachfront, catering to family fun, sunbathing, boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing!
Basically, it’s your one-stop-shop for everything you need to seas the day.
