A Guide to the Breweries of Williamsburg

Do you love sampling made-with-love craft beer as much as everyone else does? The breweries of Williamsburg offer guests delicious experimental brews and fun weekly events that make everyone feel at home. So grab your friends, family, and in some cases, the family dog, and head over to any of these awesome breweries.

Brass Cannon Brewing

Brass Cannon is a veteran-owned craft brewery and taproom that is “tapped” into the interests of the surrounding community. To show appreciation to local educators, teachers get 10% off all purchases in the taproom Tuesdays through March 26 between 2 and 9 pm. The brewery also accepts school supply donations from anyone looking to help them give back to local schools.

On Wednesdays from 5-9 pm, Brass Cannon invites you to Bring Your Own Vinyl & Tapes (BYOVAT) Night, where audiophiles are invited to come share their favorite vinyls and R2R tapes played on real gear tied to a Bose speaker system.

Thursdays are for trivia! Come by between 6:30 and 9 pm for trivia night and show off all of the previously useless facts you know! Trivia topics cover everything from current affairs to history and entertainment. Dinner is provided by a rotating list of food trucks, so come hungry!

And to round out the week, every Friday from 2-10 pm, Brass Cannon adds a new beer to its lineup. From seasonal brews to big- and limited small-batch beers, they’re all one-of-a-kind and sure to start your weekend off right.

The Virginia Beer Company

The Virginia Beer Company made a home right outside of Downtown Williamsburg in 2016 by three William & Mary grads and has been recognized for its one-of-a-kind brews ever since. Their taproom features 16 draft selections with 12 rotating on a regular basis and a new beer brewed each week (for those whose tastebuds love to try new things). From a rotation of experimental IPAs to Saisons, creativity is the name of the game at the VBC. And for the icing on the cake (or in this case, the foam on the lager?), check out their food truck calendar here.

Every Friday from 4-9:30 p.m., the brewmaster taps a small but potent Brewmaster’s Pin in the taproom. On Saturdays at 3 and 4 p.m., enjoy a complimentary tour of the facility.

Alewerks Brewing Company

Alewerks has built a strong reputation and a devoted fan base since its doors opened in 2006 (before brewing and drinking craft beer was cool). The popular (dog-friendly!) microbrewery features 16 beers on tap and draws a crowd that appreciates fine, handcrafted brews with both bold and traditional flavors. Every Tuesday night from 5-9 p.m., come enjoy delicious beer and bring your favorite records in for a spin on Vinyl Night. And if you’re a geek who likes to drink beer, come by on Wednesdays starting at 7 p.m. for Trivia Night. Every Thursday through March 14, Bingo Night will be going on at Alewerks’s at the Satellite Taproom from 6-7:30 p.m.
