Our blog last week catered to craft beer fans, but this week, we’re heading down the Colonial Virginia Wine Trail.
Virginia wineries have been an increasingly popular destination for locals and visitors. More and more chill-seekers are retreating to Virginia wineries for the breathtaking natural backdrops, relaxed vibes, and offerings that intrigue the palate and delight the taste buds.
Whether you enjoy a glass of sauv blanc, rosé or cab, here are some wineries that deserve a day or two of your time if you’re staying at King’s Creek Plantation in Williamsburg!
The first stop on the trail! Tour a barrel cellar, sip on award-winning wines or snag a yummy lunch under a canopy of wisteria that is the “accidentally-on-purpose” kind of beautiful. Williamsburg Winery has the largest vineyard in the state of Virginia and includes what we wish more wineries did—FOOD (as in meals!). The Gabriel Archer Tavern and Café Provençal are two dining venues you won’t want to miss, and include some very yummy wine pairings.
Head north on the trail for an Adirondack chair-lover’s dream. This scenic vineyard sits on a hilltop on 22 acres that produce some of Virginia’s most delectable wines. We suggest cozying up to the fire pit with friends and hanging out for a tasting, great music and people watching. This winery is packed on the weekends, and for good reason! The staff is courteous, the views are breathtaking and the wine is tasty and reasonably priced.
Visit this family-owned, family-operated vineyard and you may have difficulty putting your phone down, for it is sensationally photogenic. Made of materials reclaimed from buildings that are over a century old, New Kent Winery has that old-world European look and feel that America normally can’t quite mimic. The staff is known for being personable, and you’ll find them in the impressive tasting room that looks out onto stunning patios surrounded by meticulous landscaping. Oh yeah, and there’s wine.
You know those photos you envy of people under outdoor tents studded with plumb-sized white lights enjoying each other’s company and the tunes of some cool, obscure local band? Well, they have that here. Drop by on a weekend for events like “Fridays on the Patio” and “Sundays in the Shade,” where you’ll experience wines of the red, white and sweet variety. If you’re coming from Williamsburg, this last stop on the trail takes you north of Richmond.
