Do you know what you could use more of?
Between going to school, going to work, sports practices and games, the chaos of preparing dinner and getting everyone to bed on time (or way too late), families simply don’t spend enough quality time together.
There’s nothing wrong with scheduling fun. In fact, in today’s world, it may be the only way we can make it happen!
We think making memories that stand out from the rest is super important in the summertime, so that’s why we’ve compiled a list of the biggest thrills we could find in the Historic Triangle!
If you want to have a blast in the world’s most beautiful theme park (in case you didn’t know, the theme is European villages, and they’re magical!), head to Busch Gardens.
Each village has its own ride that ranges from gentle to delightfully thrilling, so no matter the ages or sizes of your family members, there’s something for everyone! Some of our favorite crazy coasters include the Loch Ness Monster, the Verbolten, the Alpengeist and the Griffon!
Which will be your family’s favorite?
This 43-acre park is Virginia’s largest water park and one of the biggest in the country, and it’s entirely dedicated to making your family members scream in excited unison.
Try Colossal Curl, Big Daddy Falls, and surf-boggen ride Rampage with the kids, and see if you can get through the day without feeling the delicious rush of adrenaline. (You can’t.)
Go Ape Zipline and Treetop Adventure Park
Located in historic Freedom Park, Go Ape is a totally unique and thrilling interactive treetop adventure that your family will l-o-v-e. Climb rope ladders, leap onto net bridges, swing on the trapezes and Tarzan swings, and zip through 600 feet of tree line.
Visit their website to see which adventures are suitable for which age groups! Children under 5 are welcome, but require supervision, of course!
Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour
Even after the sun goes down, the thrills continue in Williamsburg. The Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour starts at 8 p.m., and even though it’s definitely spooky, it’s very kid-friendly. Based on the book The Ghosts of Williamsburg by L.B. Taylor, this tour takes you through the cobblestone streets of Colonial Williamsburg while local guides share fun folklore.
This company also provides ghost tours in Yorktown, and there’s a more extreme version of the Williamsburg tour if you want to leave the kids with a babysitter and keep the thrills to yourselves!
This is the only time you’ll encourage your teenagers to drive like maniacs! Speeding around a racetrack like your favorite NASCAR drivers is a unique thrill that every kid should experience!
Compete with other racers and zoom under bridges and hairpin turns on the Figure 8 track, or choose the Super Stockart track for a high-banked oval track with karts that look like actual NASCAR cars! There’s also the Euro track for intermediate-level drivers, and the Rookie Track is perfect for beginners to practice their driving skills.
If thrills are what you seek, look no further. Adventure awaits at King Creek Plantation in Williamsburg!
