Celebrate the Virginia Air & Space Center

Today we’d like to talk about one of the treasures of the Historic Triangle. The Virginia Air & Space Center (VASC) is located in nearby Hampton, Virginia—the birthplace of America’s space program!

You may have been to Williamsburg once or dozens of times, but you may not have had a chance to check out this incredible museum and education center. If you’re a space nerd, a science geek, or just a diehard learning enthusiast, you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to visit a place that teaches about the wonders of our world, both seen and unseen. It’s a perfect setting for growing minds, too, and features exhibits that will turn your kids into passionate scientists!

Here are just some of the exhibits you and your curious little ones can experience when you visit VASC:

Engineer it! An Imagination Playground

Plain old playgrounds are great, but this one takes innovation to the next level. This new exhibit is perfect for young children and features blocks of all sizes and shapes to encourage learning, movement, and a passion for STEM (science, technology, math and engineering) while supporting creativity and imagination.

Solarium: Reaching New Heights

This is as close as you’ll ever get to the sun! Solarium: Reaching New Heights teaches all about the sun and its relationship with Earth and the rest of the solar system. In this amazing and informative exhibit about the mysterious star that affects us all, you can even experience what the sun sounds like!

Hands-on learning doesn’t stop with exhibits. VASC also features MaxFlight, a flight simulator that allows riders to move 360 degrees while viewing a virtual flight combat program on an enormous screen in the cockpit!

Yet another exciting item you can add to your schedule is a jaw-dropping IMAX movie, like Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryNational Parks Adventure (3D), and The Search for Life in Space (3D). Featured movies often change to give you a chance to see the latest and greatest in related films and documentaries. Check out these trailers to see which movie suits your family best!

This year just happens to be a momentous one for VASC. On April 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a culinary tour of local restaurants, live entertainment, and a variety of exciting auction packages. You can reserve your spot starting January 17 by calling (757) 727-0900 (ext. 741) or emailing Jessica Woodyard at jwoodyard@vasc.org
