Pancakes and Waffles and Omelets, Oh My!

We can probably all agree that there’s nothing better than a sensational food experience. And let’s be honest—family vacations are basically about bouncing from restaurant to restaurant (with enriching and exciting experiences in between, of course).

But the most important meal, the one that really sets the tone for our day, has always been breakfast. Whether you’re starting the first day of your vacation or you’re fueling up for a long drive or flight home, we can confidently report that these are the best places in Williamsburg to snag a magnificent breakfast.

The Smokey Griddle Pancake House

Now doesn’t that just sound like a good time? Even if you’re not a morning person, the Smokey Griddle is sure to perk you right up with breakfast fare made with love. This breakfast spot regularly receives rave reviews from guests for its great food and service. People particularly seem to enjoy menu items like bacon buttermilk pancakes, the Mexican omelet and waffles smothered in fresh fruit.

Colonial Pancake House

This family-owned restaurant boasts fast service and exceptional breakfast food. Fans of the Colonial Pancake House especially appreciate its reasonable portions (you don’t leave with the feeling that you’re going to explode) and great prices. Now that fall is right around the corner, be sure to try their A+ pumpkin pancake special!

Five Forks Café

This traditional American diner does not disappoint the traditional American diner. Open Tuesday though Sunday for breakfast and lunch and Tuesday through Saturday for dinner, Five Forks is known for its authentic 1950s feel. The kitchen serves up local favorites like corn cakes with honey butter and breakfast sandwiches on griddled sourdough. Mmm. Be sure to check out the weekly specials menu that they post online.

Baker’s Crust

Breakfast and brunch are made with fresh ingredients and served with love Friday through Sunday starting at 8 a.m. Everything on the menu is homemade, including their hearth-baked, European-style artisan breads. Positive vibes are apparent wherever you look at Baker’s Crust; a clean facility, prompt service, and delicious menu choices make for an extra special breakfast experience. If you miss them on a weekend, try stopping by during the week for lunch or dinner!

Food for Thought

Food for Thought is open for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 8-11 a.m. This small window of time opens up a big door for great conversation; Food for Thought’s décor is a collection of conversation pieces (get the name?), including bios, pictures, and quotes from the world’s great thinkers. You and your family will walk away with satisfied minds and stomachs, because the menu is just as stimulating as the discussions you’ll have. Choose from classic American breakfast dishes, ethnic dishes, healthy vegetarian dishes or seafood options. There’s a great kid’s menu, too!

Shorty’s Diner
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the one and only Shorty’s Diner! This family-owned-and-operated diner features secret family recipes passed down by generations of chefs. You know your breakfast is the real deal when there’s fresh whipped cream on your French toast and homemade gravy smothering your sausage and biscuits. We guess we like to save the best for last!
